Why AI

Consider that AI can be thought of like water. It is neither inherently good nor bad. Water, if managed properly  allows us to thrive. But if we choose to pollute the water, then it can be detrimental to our health. Its impact is determined entirely by how we, as humans, choose to interact with it.

Why the Analogy

• Neutrality: Just as water is a neutral element, AI is a neutral technology. It doesn’t have its own moral compass. Its purpose and impact are defined by the data we feed it and the goals we set for it.
• Potential for Good: When we properly manage water, we use it to drink, for sanitation, irrigation, and power. It enables societies to flourish and thrive. Similarly, when we manage AI with clear ethical principles and guide it with our highest intentions, it can help solve our greatest challenges in medicine, climate science, and global cooperation.
• Potential for Harm: The point about pollution is key. If we neglect or deliberately pollute our water sources, they become a danger to us. Likewise, if we use AI to spread disinformation, automate conflict, or infringe upon privacy, it becomes a powerful force for harm.
